Mosaic Community Care and Paraplegic Benefit Fund join forces to reduce impact of spinal cord injuries

Perth, Australia – Mosaic Community Care has entered a new partnership with Paraplegic Benefit Fund (PBF) Australia, a national not-for-profit organisation supporting people affected by spinal cord injuries.

As part of the partnership, Mosaic employees will have access to a range of benefits, including PBF’s education programs that help prevent injury and promote safer choices both at work and beyond.

Employees will also be eligible to claim a member benefit payment of $250,000 in the event of a permanent traumatic spinal cord injury. The membership covers all Mosaic employees, including permanent and casual staff, and offers 24/7 financial protection cover even outside of work or sporting activities.

Socio-economic impact of spinal cord injuries

Spinal cord injuries can occur unexpectedly, affecting anyone at any time. These injuries not only impact mobility but can also lead to a loss of control, significantly impacting both mental and physical well-being, as well as independence.

In Australia, over 20,000 people are living with spinal cord injuries, with a new case emerging every day. The economic impact of these injuries cost the Australian economy approx. $3.7bn annually in healthcare expenses, lost productivity, and reduced well-being (source).

Creating a safer, supportive workplace

The collaboration with PBF Australia underscores Mosaic’s commitment to creating a safe and supportive workplace. It helps ensure that employees and their families have peace of mind in unexpected and difficult circumstances. Beyond business the partnership will have a community impact, as it will help PBF Australia fund crucial programs that prevent injuries and support those who are affected by spinal cord injuries.

Speaking on the partnership, Mosaic Community Care CEO Rob Wilton says, “As a disability services provider, our team works very hard day in, day out to support and care for vulnerable people within our communities, including people with an acquired disability. Acquiring disability through injury or accident has a life-changing impact on a person and their loved ones as they re-learn how to navigate life. Our partnership with PBF Australia aims to help reduce that impact for our employees and support them, if and when they need it most.”

PBF Australia CEO Kim Hocking adds, “Collaboration is key to supporting people with spinal cord injury. PBF Australia values working alongside others to drive injury prevention, peer support, and a financial safety net for our members in case of traumatic spinal cord injury. Together, we create a stronger, more inclusive community. Thanks to Mosaic for embracing the spinal cord injury community and truly supporting those living with a disability.”
